Angus MacLennan was born and brought up in the Isle of Lewis, in the outer Hebrides of Scotland. He was educated in the island, then at Napier University Edinburgh, and later on at Insead, Fontainebleau.

His banking career spans 30 years during which he has held key positions including, Credit Analyst at United Dominion Trust, Credit Analyst then International Banking Officer for United California Bank (now Wells Fargo) in London and Los Angeles, Senior Manager, Corporate Banking with the London office of what is now Natexis Banques Populaire, CEO of all Danske Bank non-Nordic branches and most recently CEO Fortis Bank UK including membership on the Executive Board and Global Co-Head of Merchant Banking.

In addition, Angus is or has been involved in a number of fora including Chairman of Association of Foreign Banks, 1998 – 2003, Vice President, British Bankers Association, 2000 – 2003 Chairman, Audit and Remuneration Committee, BBA Steering Group Member, Basle II Steering Committee, Institute of International Finance, Washington, Master of the Worshipful Company of International Bankers. Angus is currently, Immediate Past Master, Worshipful Company of International Bankers, Freeman of the Guild of International Bankers, Freeman of the City of London, Vice Chairman and Trustee, The Eve Appeal and Treasurer, Shinai Serjali.
